Abstract

The Palm Oil Resolution issued by the European Union in 2017 had a massive impact on the Indonesian palm oil industry and the relations of Indonesia's trading partners with EU member countries. The issue raised through the Resolution was the palm oil industry, which is damaging the environment and needs to be stopped by not consuming the products related, in fact the palm oil itself is one of the largest sources of wealth for Indonesia. Therefore, the Indonesian government made efforts to respond to the issue, such as negotiating with the European Union, bringing the issue to the WTO and conducting diplomacy with other palm oil countries to tackle the notorious issue of palm oil. However, besides the Resolution, the European Union also carried out several things such as the RED policy and non-tariff barriers for palm oil imports. This research uses the theory of liberalism in order to analyze the problems and picture the role of the Indonesian government. The methodological approach used in this study is a qualitative method by explaining trade issues and the role of the Indonesian government.
