Abstract

Industri pupuk menghasilkan limbah cair dengan karakteristik pH tinggi dan kandungan amonia yang melebihi baku mutu lingkungan. PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang telah menggunakan aluminium sulfat untuk menurunkan pH air limbah, namun belum memiliki standar dosis optimal yang menyebabkan inefisiensi operasional dan pemborosan biaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses pengelolaan limbah, mengidentifikasi dosis optimum aluminium sulfat, dan memberikan rekomendasi efektivitas penambahan aluminium sulfat. Metode penelitian menggunakan jar test dengan variasi dosis 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, dan 50 mg/L pada sampel air limbah dengan pH awal 9,77 dan kandungan amonia 230 ppm. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dosis optimum aluminium sulfat adalah 30 mg/L yang mampu menurunkan pH menjadi 9,00 (memenuhi baku mutu 6-9) dengan efisiensi 7,9% dan menurunkan kandungan amonia menjadi 150 ppm dengan efisiensi 34,8%. Hubungan dosis-respon mengikuti persamaan linear pH = 9,7357 - 0,024x dengan korelasi sangat kuat (R² = 0,990). Implementasi dosis optimum dapat menghemat 49,1% biaya operasional dibandingkan praktik existing (58,9 mg/L), setara dengan penghematan Rp 1.305.500 per aplikasi atau dapat diasumsikan sebesar Rp 62.664.000 per tahun dan mengurangi produksi lumpur aluminium hidroksida sebesar 49,1%. Penelitian ini memberikan rekomendasi untuk implementasi dosis optimum (30 mg/L), pengembangan SOP treatment (pembatasan akses petugas di kolam limbah), dan sistem monitoring ketat melalui audit berkala untuk memastikan kepatuhan terhadap baku mutu lingkungan (Permen LH nomor 5 Tahun 2014 dan Pergub Sumsel Nomor 8 Tahun 2012). PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang has been using aluminum sulfate to reduce wastewater pH but lacks optimal dosage standards, leading to operational inefficiencies and cost waste. This study aims to understand the waste management process, identify the optimum aluminum sulfate dosage, and provide recommendations for the effectiveness of aluminum sulfate addition. The research method employed jar tests with dosage variations of 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 mg/L on wastewater samples with initial pH of 9.77 and ammonia content of 230 ppm. The results show that the optimum aluminum sulfate dosage is 30 mg/L, which can reduce pH to 9.00 (meeting the quality standard of 6-9) with 7.9% efficiency and reduce ammonia content to 150 ppm with 34.8% efficiency. The dose-response relationship follows the linear equation pH = 9.7357 - 0.024x with very strong correlation (R² = 0.990). Implementation of the optimum dosage can save 49.1% of operational costs compared to existing practice (58.9 mg/L), equivalent to savings of Rp 1,305,500 per application or approximately Rp 62,664,000 per year, and reduce aluminum hydroxide sludge production by 49.1%. This study provides recommendations for implementing the optimum dosage (30 mg/L), developing treatment SOPs (restricting personnel access to waste ponds), and implementing strict monitoring systems via regular audits to ensure environmental standard compliance (Permen LH nomor 5 Tahun 2014 dan Pergub Sumsel Nomor 8 Tahun 2012).
