Abstract
The red sea plays a crucial role as an international shipping route connecting the Indian Ocean with the Mediterranean Sea through the Suez Canal. Since the outbreak of the conflict between Israel and Hamas in October 2023, the Yemen Houthi group has been carrying out attacks on ships that cross the red sea as support for Palestine. The impact of the attack resulted in disruptions of the stability of international sailing and also in the global economy. The study was to reflect on the response given by IMO (International Maritime Organization) as to the assault by the Houthi group in the red sea region of the 2023-2025 period. In the study, researchers have used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through case studies and document analysis. The results of the study indicate that IMO had responded by issuing official statements, monitoring the situation, then meeting Djibouti Code of Conduct (DCoC), and cooperating with other international organizations such as Interpol, UNDC, and IGAD to improve maritime security in the red sea area. In addition, IMO launched a maritime security program funded by the European Union in the Red Sea and The Gulf of Aden. Through these efforts, another imo can be summed up by identifying his role as a viable international institution.
