Abstract
Palm oil plantations are one of Indonesia’s leading commodities, contributing significantly to the national economy. However, the development of smallholder-managed palm oil plantations continues to face various challenges, particularly limited capital for cultivation, replanting, and maintenance activities. This study aims to develop a crowdfunding-based financing model for palm oil plantations as an alternative funding source that is more inclusive and sustainable. The research employed a descriptive qualitative methodology with a case study on government plantations in Pekanbaru. The participants in this study consisted of plasma farmers in Pekanbaru as plantation managers and private sector employees in Jakarta as potential investors. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and a literature review related to plantation financing mechanisms and crowdfunding practices in the agribusiness sector. The analysis was conducted to formulate a financing model that incorporates public participation, transparent management, and a fair profit-sharing mechanism for both investors and plantation managers. The findings indicate that the crowdfunding model can be a potential solution to overcome financing constraints, enhance public participation in agribusiness investment, and promote the sustainability of palm oil plantations. The proposed model integrates digital technology, transparent governance schemes, and supportive regulations to ensure effective implementation. Thus, the development of a crowdfunding-based financing model for palm oil plantations is expected not only to improve the productivity and sustainability of plantations in Pekanbaru but also to serve as an innovative alternative that can be replicated in other agribusiness sectors across Indonesia.
