Abstract

The construction of Base Transceiver Station (BTS) towers requires a foundation system that is robust and secure against both vertical and horizontal loads, particularly in North Jakarta, where soil characteristics are generally soft. This study aims to compare the performance of a footplate foundation versus a combined raft-pile (bored pile) foundation for a BTS tower structure in Pegangsaan 2, North Jakarta. Analysis was conducted using the Plaxis 3D method to evaluate bearing capacity and settlement, as well as to calculate the carbon footprint. Soil parameters were derived from cone penetration test (CPT) data and borehole logs from the project site. The analysis results indicate that the footplate foundation experienced greater settlement than the raft-pile foundation due to the instability of the upper soil layers. The combined raft-pile foundation demonstrated significantly higher stiffness and greater effectiveness in mitigating both total and differential settlement. Structurally, the combined raft-pile foundation offers superior safety for resisting the combined earthquake and wind loads acting on the BTS tower at the study site, despite having a larger carbon footprint than the footplate foundation.
