Abstract
The coastal area of Pandeglang Regency, particularly Carita, Labuan, and Pagelaran Districts, holds significant ecological, economic, and social value, especially as a coastal tourism area with an average of approximately 1.39 million visitors per year. The shoreline in this region is inherently dynamic and continuously changes due to the interaction between natural processes and human activities, potentially causing abrasion and accretion that affect the coastal environment and community. This study aims to analyze the pattern, direction, and rate of shoreline change in the coastal area of Pandeglang during the 2015–2025 period using remote sensing methods and the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS). Shorelines were extracted from Sentinel-2A satellite imagery for the years 2015, 2020, and 2025 using the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI) spectral index method processed with QGIS software, then analyzed using DSAS through the generation of 520 transects at 50-meter intervals along approximately 30.80 km of coastline covering three districts. The results show that shoreline change during this period is dominated by accretion (56.50%) compared to abrasion (43.50%), with an average Net Shoreline Movement (NSM) of 14.2 meters, an End Point Rate (EPR) of 1.42 m/year, and a Linear Regression Rate (LRR) of 1.41 m/year. The maximum accretion of 361.07 meters (36.12 m/year) was recorded near the Labuan Power Plant (PLTU) Port due to sediment trapping by jetty/breakwater structures, while the maximum abrasion of -44.61 meters (-4.47 m/year) was recorded in Labuan District. Field documentation showed shoreline change patterns consistent with the physical conditions at the locations, such as the dominance of mild abrasion in Carita District due to self-built protective structures, and the extreme adjacent accretion and abrasion pattern in Labuan District caused by downdrift erosion. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for local government in coastal setback zoning and sustainable coastal area management planning.
