Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of fact-checking journalism in the Kompas.com media to deal with the phenomenon of disinformation, as well as the role of User Generated Content (UGC). With a qualitative approach and descriptive method, this study analyzes how the Kompas.com fact-checking editorial team verifies information spread in the community, especially through digital media. Disinformation theory is used to understand the spread of false information, while UGC theory explains content generated by media users that has the potential to create incorrect information. The results of the study show that Kompas.com applies fact-checking journalism through three sub-channels, namely Hoax or Facts, Facts and Data, and History and Facts. The Kompas.com fact-checking editorial team uses technology that can verify and check the truth of circulating information. This study concludes that the application of fact-checking journalism in Kompas.com is effective in verifying information circulating in digital media, as well as providing correct and accurate information to the public
