Abstract

This research examines the cooperation between Indonesia and South Korea in accelerating the new renewable energy transition within the battery electric vehicle (BEV) sector. This is crucial as it illustrates how collaboration between Indonesia and South Korea can aid in expediting energy transition in Indonesia and seeks to address the effectiveness of said cooperation. The Indonesian government targets a 31.89% reduction in carbon emissions through its own efforts and a 43.20% reduction with international assistance by 2030. This significant target will be achieved through the electric vehicle transition, supported by Indonesia's substantial nickel resource potential for battery industry downstreaming. This study evaluates various aspects of cooperation, such as the challenges faced, Indonesia's nickel supply chain, policy harmonization, and the interim results achieved by both countries. This research employs a qualitative research method, optimizing data sources found by the author online. In this study, the author utilizes liberalism theory, international cooperation, bilateral cooperation, Pareto efficiency theory, effectiveness, and stakeholder roles. The research results indicate that this cooperation is effective in assisting Indonesia in transitioning energy from conventional vehicles to battery electric vehicles.
