Abstract

This study examines the discourse of collective resistance to power domination in the Arlong Park Arc of One Piece Live Action Season 1, Episodes 6-8, using Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis. This qualitative study analyzes dialogue in Indonesian subtitles, characters’ actions, expressions, gestures, use of space, visual objects, image composition, and narrative sequences. The findings show that Arlong’s domination is constructed through threats, an ideology of racial superiority, a tribute system, the exploitation of Nami’s knowledge, control over space, and institutional protection through Captain Nezumi. Collective resistance develops from hidden resistance and individual strategies toward the disclosure of experiences, requests for assistance, the formation of trust, shared identity, and the division of roles. The main finding lies in the shift from “I” to “we”, which demonstrates the transformation of personal experience into shared knowledge and collective responsibility. At the sociocultural level, patterns of control over space, resources, and authority are critically examined in relation to the social conditions of Indonesia in 2023. This relationship indicates similarities at the level of broader social patterns without equating representations in the fictional world with real-world events.
