Abstract
ABSTRACT The growing population and community activities in Sukoharjo Regency have increased the volume of solid waste requiring disposal at the landfill in Mojorejo Village, Bendosari Sub-District. This study analyzes waste generation characteristics, landfill operational conditions, and estimates the remaining service life of each landfill zone. Measurements taken in 2026 show that the average daily waste intake was 306,125 kg, with an average density of 122.40 kg/m³. Based on the 2026 population projection of 697,040 people, waste generation amounts to 0.44 kg per person per day, with an annual growth rate of 0.01 kg per year due to changes in people’s lifestyles. Waste composition is dominated by food waste (43.54%), rigid plastics (16.97%), paper & cardboard (14.85%), diapers & sanitary pads (7.59%), packaging plastics (7.73%), and garden waste (6.27%), with the remainder being textile and wood waste — indicating organic and biodegradable waste as the largest fraction. The Mojorejo landfill operates as a controlled landfill, equipped with two leachate treatment ponds, groundwater monitoring wells, an impermeable liner, methane gas venting, layered cover soil, and composting and shredding facilities. The results of the service life analysis indicate that Zone D1 has a service life of 1 month and 16 days starting in 2027, meaning the entire landfill capacity is projected to be full by February 16, 2027. A new landfill site covering approximately 8 hectares is required to process and accommodate waste from Sukoharjo Regency in order to achieve 100% service coverage by 2030, in accordance with Governor's Regulation No. 46 of 2025.
