Abstract
Managing drug stock in hospitals is very important to ensure that drugs are always available when needed while saving expenses on the purchase of drug stock. Problems such as out-of-stock or overstock can disrupt services and make the use of inventory inefficient. This study aims to analyze how to manage the stock of twelve types of injectable drugs for chronic gastritis in a hospital in Jakarta using the Demand-Driven Material Requirements Planning (DDMRP) method, then compare the results with the stock management method currently used. This study uses a quantitative approach with historical data on drug use and stock from April 2025 to March 2026. The DDMRP parameter is created by calculating the average daily usage (ADU), delivery time (lead time), demand Variability factor (DVF), delivery time Variability factor (LTVF), and buffer zone creation. The results of the simulation were then re-examined in a Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) manner involving the Forecaster and the Pharmacist in Charge. The performance of existing methods and DDMRP is compared using several indicators such as service level, stock scarcity, average inventory value, and excess stock reduction. The study showed that the DDMRP simulation increased the level of service for 11 out of 12 products, while one product, namely Pumpisel 40 mg Injection, decreased from 97.85% to 97.61%. The total number of stock shortages decreased from 1,916 to 858 cases, or decreased by 55.22%. Stockouts decreased on 11 out of 12 items, while Pumpisel increased the number of stockouts from 142 to 158 times. In addition, excess stock decreased on all items, with five items decreasing by up to 100%. Meanwhile, the average inventory and average inventory value show different changes for each item. In some goods there is a reduction in stock, while in others there is an increase due to the formation of buffers to ensure that medicines remain available. Sanmol 1000mg/100 ml Infus is one of the items that needs to be considered because the average stock increased from 176.05 units to 303.49 units, although the increase in service level was only 0.12 percentage points, namely from 98.86% to 98.98%. Based on these results, DDMRP has the ability to increase drug stocks, reduce the incidence of stock depletion, and help overcome excess stock. However, the implementation of DDMRP should be done in a flexible manner because the level of effectiveness of buffer parameters can be different for each type of item. Therefore, the results of the simulation must be checked regularly using the HITL method by taking into account the real working conditions, demand levels, and actual waiting times before being used as a reference in making purchasing decisions.
