Abstract
The coal mining sector in Indonesia requires adequate haul road infrastructure to ensure the smooth distribution of national energy resources. PT XYZ, a coal mining company, plans to increase its production by 500,000 tons per year, targeting a total output of 3,500,000 tons by the end of 2025. This increase in production volume has the potential to cause traffic congestion and vehicle queuing on the existing single active route within the port area, thereby necessitating the opening of a new operational haul road route. This study aims to identify the key parameters involved in decision-making for opening a new route to support the smooth distribution of mined materials, as well as to calculate and determine the required pavement structure to accommodate the increased production capacity. The research method employed is an engineering design approach, involving analytical processes carried out through data collection on haul road characteristics, design traffic loads, and pavement material properties, which are then analyzed using established design guidelines.
