Abstract

Residual sugar cane is the remaining sugar cane found in each work area or plantation affiliated with a sugar factory. The existence of residual sugar cane is caused by the process of cutting and transporting sugar cane that exceeds the carrying capacity for the sugar cane transportation process, so that there is residual sugar cane that is not transported. Utilization of residual sugarcane is very important to increase the supply of sugarcane in the factory. In addition, transportation routes are also an important thing in the transportation process to produce speed and safety of transportation of residual sugarcane raw materials. Ineffective transportation routes can hamper production activities. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to identify the amount of residual sugarcane and to find out the effective route for the residual sugarcane transportation process in terms of distance and transportation costs incurred. The object of the research was conducted in a sugar factory in the Cirebon area with a research focus on transportation routes for residual sugarcane using the Saving Matrix method. The results showed that the distance savings on the new route was 25.36% with a total mileage of 146.9 km, while the distance from the initial route was 196.8 km. Then obtained fuel cost savings of 25.36% with fuel costs on the new route is Rp 345,215, while on the initial route the fuel cost required is Rp 462,480. The results of the sensitivity test after the production volume is reduced by -3.3% indicate that the new route can still be used and has no significant changes because the residual sugarcane incorporation in each region can be fulfilled without exceeding the carrying capacity of 60 quintals.
