Abstract

Palembang, the capital of South Sumatra Province, serves as the center of provincial and city governments, resulting in high community mobility. The transportation needs in Palembang are currently increasing and beginning to face common urban transportation problems, namely traffic congestion and a lack of public transportation services. To address these challenges, the government, through the Ministry of Transportation, has made various efforts to reduce congestion by improving the performance of mass transportation, namely through the operation of the South Sumatra LRT in Palembang City and Banyuasin Regency, which crosses 13 stations and is connected to Trans Musi and DAMRI bus services. This study aims to examine the need for park and ride facilities as one effort to improve services and optimize the function of the South Sumatra LRT. Park and ride is considered an effective intermodal integration solution, allowing private vehicle users to park their vehicles near the LRT station and continue their journey using the LRT. The background of this research is supported by several previous studies that show the advantages of LRT technology and the potential for developing park and ride systems. This study is expected to provide comprehensive recommendations regarding the development of park and ride facilities that are in line with the needs of the people of Palembang and support the sustainability of the mass transportation system in the city.
