Abstract
ABSTRACT The formation of economic alliances such as BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) has become a significant phenomenon in global economic dynamics. As a developing country with substantial economic potential, Indonesia is considering joining BRICS to enhance international cooperation, market access, and investment. This study aims to analyze the cost-benefit aspects of Indonesia's membership in BRICS using a qualitative approach and descriptive method. Applying the theories of liberalism and neoclassical political economy, the research explores the potential advantages and disadvantages Indonesia may face from economic, political, and social perspectives. The cost analysis includes potential economic dependence, policy adjustments, and the impact on bilateral relations. Meanwhile, the benefit analysis covers increased foreign investment, expanded export markets, and Indonesia’s strengthened geopolitical position on the international stage. The findings indicate that while BRICS membership offers significant economic opportunities, the associated challenges require well-planned policy strategies. Therefore, a thorough evaluation is essential before making a decision regarding Indonesia's BRICS membership to ensure that the benefits outweigh the potential risks.
