Abstract
The Rohingya humanitarian crisis is one of the most pressing global issues that has significantly affected the stability of Southeast Asia and Bangladesh. Structural discrimination and acts of violence committed against the Rohingya ethnic minority in Myanmar have triggered a mass exodus to neighboring countries, creating complex social, economic, and political challenges in host states. This study aims to analyze the role of the United Nations (UN) in addressing the impacts of the Rohingya refugee crisis in Southeast Asia and Bangladesh during the 2018–2024 period. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, utilizing literature studies, official documents, and international organization reports as primary sources of data. The findings reveal that the UN, particularly through its specialized agencies such as UNHCR, has played a significant role in providing humanitarian assistance, safeguarding the human rights of refugees, and facilitating international cooperation in managing the crisis. Nevertheless, these efforts remain far from optimal due to several constraints, including limited resources, divergent political interests among member states, and weak policy implementation at the national level. Thus, although the UN’s involvement has been crucial in alleviating the burden on host countries, it has yet to achieve a sustainable long-term resolution to the Rohingya crisis. Stronger political commitment, enhanced regional coordination, and the reinforcement of international legal instruments are therefore required to ensure a more comprehensive and sustainable solution for the Rohingya refugees.
