Abstract
Global climate change necessitates mitigation efforts through carbon sequestration. Kiarapayung Biodiversity Park (Taman Kehati) possesses potential as a carbon sink; however, specific data regarding the carbon stock of tree stands within the observation plots have not been comprehensively analyzed. This study aims to estimate the aboveground biomass (AGB) carbon stock of tree stands and analyze its variation based on stand characteristics in Blocks 1–7 and Block 8C of Kiarapayung Biodiversity Park. The method employed involved measurements within Permanent Sample Plots (PSPs) across 31 observation points. Biomass estimation was calculated using the allometric equation developed by Chave et al., incorporating parameters of diameter, tree height, and wood density. The results from the 31 PSPs, covering a total area of 1.24 hectares, revealed a total carbon stock of 56.94 tons of C (45.92 tC/ha), which is equivalent to 208.96 tCO₂e. The variation in carbon stock indicated a correlation with stand characteristics; PSPs featuring tree stands with larger diameters and basal areas tended to exhibit higher carbon stocks, despite having fewer individual trees. Eucalyptus sp. provided the largest contribution to the carbon stock, accounting for 45.11%. The tree stands in Kiarapayung Biodiversity Park demonstrate significant potential as carbon sinks, thereby supporting climate change mitigation efforts.
