Abstract
The four-wheeled electric vehicle subsidy policy in Indonesia and Vietnam emerged from efforts toward an environmentally friendly energy transition in the four-wheeled vehicle sector. The Indonesian and Vietnamese governments jointly aim to gradually shift four-wheeled vehicles from fossil fuels to electric vehicles for environmentally friendly purposes. The subsidies provided in the form of policies from both countries are intended to attract public interest in deciding to purchase EVs (Electric Vehicles), which are within the 2021-April 2026 period. Indonesia and Vietnam both have rapid EV sales rates. However, the problem arises not from the extent of the increase in EVs, but rather the extent to which the policy is safe and effective, because there is an economic gap that occurs in society, so that EVs are not evenly distributed to all community criteria. This study uses a qualitative research method with a validation strategy using primary data sources in the form of interviews with EV consumers in Indonesia and secondary data by collecting perceptions of EV consumers in Vietnam through social media and official websites regarding electric vehicle subsidy policies. Based on the author's findings, the effectiveness of the electric vehicle subsidy policy is fiscally effective because it can reduce the tax burden and the provision of registration fees in both countries. However, consumer decision-making is not effective because it doesn't reach the entire population, especially the middle-income group. Purchases tend to remain expensive, even with subsidies, compared to conventional vehicles. Furthermore, infrastructure is inadequate in some regions.
