Abstract

This study analyzes the Trans Sulawesi Road in Central Sulawesi Province. This road has been designated as a National Road because it connects National Vital Objects (National Activity Centers) with transportation hubs, specifically the Sultan Aminudin Amir Airport located in Luwuk City, Banggai Regency. The road spans approximately 12.20 kilometers and traverses extreme hilly terrain, posing significant operational risks. Additionally, it was constructed to provide access to national vital objects and accommodate heavy vehicles, necessitating more complex horizontal and vertical alignment designs. It also serves as the sole access route for the general public, with notable limitations in the road's right-of-way between stations 7+900 and 11+900, where frequent accidents occur due to intricate horizontal and vertical alignments. The construction of this road was completed in 2017 through a collaboration between the local government and local companies. Given these conditions, risk mitigation measures are essential, including a thorough review of the horizontal and vertical alignments between stations 7+900 and 11+900. The analysis entails assessing whether the horizontal alignment meets the design speed requirements (VD = 60 km/h), evaluating the vertical alignment considering the road’s convex or concave conditions with a maximum gradient of 10% for mountainous terrain, calculating the cross-section to determine the required volume of excavation and embankment, and analyzing the discrepancies between the existing conditions and the ideal road design.
