Abstract
Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, as one of the Greenhouse Gases (GHGs), are prevalent in human activities. Green Open Spaces (GOS), which act as reducers, are declining due to the increasing number of residential developments. The Rancaekek District is one of the areas experiencing annual growth in residential developments. As residential construction increases, the planning of GOS decreases. The Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) commitment sets a target to reduce carbon emissions from all sectors by 31.89% by 2030. Therefore, an analysis of the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions with the availability of existing GOS is necessary to find precise and effective solutions to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. The aim of this study is to identify the sources and amounts of CO2 emissions, the availability and reduction capacity of GOS in the Rancaekek District, and to provide recommendations to address these issues. The research uses questionnaires distributed to 100 households in the Rancaekek District and analyzes satellite imagery using the Supervised Classification method. Data analysis is based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and mathematical calculations. The questionnaire results indicate that residential emissions consist of primary emissions such as vehicle fuel (gasoline and diesel), cooking fuel (LPG and firewood), and secondary emissions such as electricity use, with a total carbon dioxide (CO2) emission of 93,337.53 tons of CO2 per year. The current GOS absorption capacity is 59,233.31 tons of CO2 per year, leaving a remaining CO2 emission of 34,104.22 tons of CO2 per year, which can reduce 63% of the total emissions. Recommendations to reduce the remaining emissions include planting 1,197 Trembesi trees with a total canopy area of 59.93 hectares, installing 81,215 independent solar panels, combining tree planting and solar panel installation with a balanced simulation of 50% emission reduction by solar panels and 50% tree planting, and other recommendations such as improving energy efficiency for CO2 emission sources.
