Abstract

The lyrics of the song "Cewek Mah Gitu" tell the story of a man who complains about his romantic relationship with his partner. The lyrics depict women as complex creatures, therefore this research uses Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis. Roland Barthes semiotics discusses denotative (literal), connotative (symbolic), and mythical meanings. The results of the research through the meaning of myth, the songwriter conveys the ideology that women have egocentrism which refers to their selfishness, lack of care, and self-righteousness. This is evident in the lyrics that are destructive in language and repetitive lyric writing techniques. Through the lyrics created by Hendra Nurahman. First, the representation of women is depicted as creatures who control everything, because it makes women egocentric creatures. Second, there is an element of patriarchy built by men that supports women to be represented as selfish creatures, lack of care, and self-righteousness. Third, the simple and unique presentation of the lyrics makes the message in this song easy to understand by the general public regarding the meat of the story. Therefore, the song that was created presents a contradiction between men's perspectives on women, however, this song is present as a medium for men so that they can understand their difficulties in running their lives.
