Abstract

This study aims to explore a comparison of Donald Trump's "America First" rhetoric in 2016 & 2024. In 2016, Donald Trump won the presidential election on the platform "America First." He wants a strong yet isolated United States, which maximizes its gains while minimizing its involvement. In 2024, Trump is running for president again. The "America First" rhetoric heading into the White House in 2024 is known as a more aggressive and ambitious rhetoric. Using the realism paradigm and the Aristotle’s concept of rhetoric; logos, pathos, ethos, this study finds a comparison of the communication styles scope that emerges related to the "America First" rhetoric brought by Donald Trump in both campaign periods that year. Qualitative methods will be used to collect and analyze relevant secondary data, such as campaign speeches, news articles, and related research. It is hoped that this study will provide in-depth insights into the evolution of Donald Trump's "America First" rhetorical discourse in the 2016 and 2024 campaigns.
