Abstract

The development of TikTok and Instagram as platforms for information dissemination has encouraged changes in the way messages are delivered to audiences. The rapid and concise presentation of information requires communication strategies that can capture attention while helping audiences understand messages within a limited amount of time. This issue becomes increasingly important when the information contains complex contexts, as verbal communication alone may make it difficult for audiences to fully understand the message. One strategy that can be applied is visual storytelling, which conveys information through a combination of narrative and visual elements. This phenomenon can be observed in KlikSource’s Brief Shoot content on TikTok and Instagram, which utilizes various forms of illustration to support information delivery. This study aims to analyze the implementation of visual storytelling through the use of information illustrations in KlikSource’s Brief Shoot content on TikTok and Instagram and to identify the functions of illustrations in supporting information delivery to audiences. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through observations of KlikSource content on TikTok and Instagram, as well as documentation. The data were analyzed based on narrative structure, visual elements, the relationship between narrative and visual elements, and the types and functions of illustrations used in the content. The findings indicate that the implementation of visual storytelling in KlikSource content is constructed through a narrative structure consisting of a hook, body, and closing, combined with a news anchor, illustrations, audio, text, and consistent visual identity. The illustrations include photographs, documentary videos, digital illustrations, text graphics, icons, symbols, and combinations of various visual elements. Illustrations function not only as decorative elements but also to attract attention, clarify and simplify information, create a more engaging visual experience, and help audiences understand the context of information when verbal messages are not fully received. Therefore, visual storytelling at KlikSource serves as a communication strategy that integrates verbal and visual elements to deliver information in a concise, contextual, and easily understandable manner in accordance with the characteristics of TikTok and Instagram.
