Abstract

The growing diversity of digital learning resources and formal education has positioned the construction of Public Relations (PR) knowledge among Generation Z beyond academic settings, extending into professional experiences and social interactions. The 2025 Indonesian Public Relations Convention (KHI) in Surabaya provided a space where academic knowledge, PR practices, and social interactions converged to shape Generation Z’s understanding of PR. A qualitative case study approach was employed through in-depth interviews with five Generation Z informants consisting of convention participants and committee members, supported by triangulation with PR practitioners and academics. The analysis applied Berger and Luckmann’s theory of the social construction of reality through externalization, objectivation, and internalization. The findings show that PR knowledge was constructed through a combination of delivered materials, practical experiences, interaction, discussion, and networking. Informants’ understanding developed from perceiving PR primarily as publication and information delivery toward a broader strategic function involving reputation, trust, and stakeholder relations. The knowledge was subsequently internalized into their perspectives, professional understanding, and individual orientations toward the PR field. KHI 2025 therefore functioned not merely as a forum for information exchange, but as a social learning space where knowledge and experience converged in shaping Generation Z’s professional understanding of Public Relations.
