Abstract

This research explores the role of soundscape in shaping emotions and meanings for visitors at Geosite Rammang-Rammang, South Sulawesi. As a karst-based tourist destination, Rammang-Rammang not only offers visual beauty but also unique auditory elements such as flowing water, blowing wind, and tropical bird calls. This study employs Maurice Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology of perception approach to illustrate how tourists' bodies actively construct meanings through direct auditory experiences. Furthermore, Manfred Clynes' Sentic Theory is utilized to analyze how soundscapes evoke specific emotional responses such as tranquility, amazement, and connectedness. Through qualitative methods, including case studies and in-depth interviews, this research reveals that soundscapes add a new dimension to tourism experiences, enrich tourist perception, and enhance emotional attachment to the site. The findings aim to provide theoretical contributions to the study of auditory nonverbal communication and practical benefits in developing sensory-based tourism.
