Abstract
Domestic violence is a social issue that has a serious impact on mental health, especially for women and children. The film Bolehkah Sekali Saja Kumenangis (2024) depicts the traumatic experiences of the character Tari, who has suffered violence since childhood. This study aims to examine the representation of Tari's trauma coping in the film Bolehkah Sekali Saja Kumenangis (2024). The method used is a qualitative approach with Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic analysis, which includes the categories of representamen, object, and interpretant. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, documentation, and literature study. In the representamen category, trauma coping is seen through facial expressions, tone of voice, and body movements that reflect emotions and attempts at self-control. The object category is present through visuals, emotional gestures, and actions that represent the process of emotional recovery. Meanwhile, the interpretant category is seen in movements and expressions that open up various possibilities for emotional interpretation, demonstrated directly through the reality of actions, behavior, and logical dialogue as a form of self-awareness, courage, and efforts to fight violence. The results of the study show that Tari's trauma coping is represented through various strategies such as self-care, building social support, creating a safe environment, understanding oneself, and channeling emotions through hobbies. This study concludes that the representation of trauma coping in Tari's character is a response to the violence she experienced since childhood. A stressful environment shaped her recovery journey. This trauma coping shows that women have the ability to rise up, make decisions, and free themselves from violence. In addition to highlighting personal aspects, this film also criticizes issues of patriarchy, gender inequality, and socio-economic factors as the background of the conflict, making it a medium for social reflection as well as mental health education that emphasizes that trauma healing is multidimensional, involving psychological, social, cultural, and self-reconstruction aspects of the victim.
