Abstract
Global coal price volatility, characterized by price fluctuations, demand uncertainty, and international energy policy dynamics, puts significant pressure on mining companies' performance. These conditions require companies to formulate procurement strategies that are not only cost-efficient but also capable of managing supply risks and maintaining operational sustainability. This study aims to analyze the impact of global coal price trends on procurement strategies and decision-making processes at PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC), particularly in the procurement of strategic items. This study uses a mixed methods approach. The qualitative method was conducted through in-depth interviews with stakeholders in the Supply Chain Division to identify critical items and key factors that influence procurement decisions. Furthermore, the quantitative method was used with the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) approach to determine the priority weight of criteria and alternative procurement strategies. The classification of strategic items was supported by the use of the Kraljic Matrix. The results show that the Cost Impact and Efficiency criteria have the highest weight (40.1%), followed by Supply Risk (26.3%), Supplier Capability (21.4%), and Partnership and Flexibility (12.2%). The most dominant procurement strategy alternative for the Cost Impact and Efficiency criteria is the hybrid contract model. These findings indicate that combining contracts with dynamic price and volume adjustment mechanisms that respond to price conditions enables companies to maintain cost flexibility amid global coal price fluctuations.
