Abstract

In the past few years, the friends with benefits phenomenon has started to grow in Indonesia. However, friends with benefits relationships in Indonesia are considered controversial, as Indonesia still upholds religion, morals and norms. Many friends with benefit relationships are found on the OkCupid app, which has an open approach to different types of relationships. This makes the practice of friends with benefits more practical and simple for users to do. In addition, online dating applications such as OkCupid are also considered a safe place or space to find friends with benefit partners. The purpose of this study is to examine how self- disclosure is carried out by users of the online dating application OkCupid when establishing friends with benefit relationships, which will be reviewed through the theory of self-disclosure and social penetration, with qualitative research methods and phenomenological approaches. The object of this research is the OkCupid application, the author conducted in-depth interviews with five informants who are OkCupid application users and have a friends with benefit relationship. The results show that informants conduct intense self-disclosure with their friends with benefit partners, they not only have sexual intercourse, but also make it a place to tell stories and share private information about themselves.
