Abstract

This research is entitled “The Meaning of Self Struggle in the Lyrics of the Song ‘Di Pinggir Jurang’ by Laze (Ferdinand de Saussure Semiotics Analysis).” The purpose of this research is to reveal and analyze the meaning of self-struggle contained in the lyrics of the song “Di Pinggir Jurang” using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic approach. This song was chosen because it is considered to represent a personal struggle that is relevant to the younger generation, especially generation Z. The research method used is qualitative. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach, the main data in this study are the lyrics of the song “Di Pinggir Jurang” which are analyzed using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic theory. The results show that the lyrics of this song not only convey messages of self-struggle, but also describe the inner conflict and emotional journey experienced by a person in facing life's challenges. The signifiers and signs in the song lyrics reflect aspects of self-struggle and motivation. In addition, this study also found that the form and content of the song are very effective in communicating these meanings to the listeners, especially through the choice of words and the use of metaphors in the lyrics of the song presented with Saussure's semiotic theory. In conclusion, the song “Di Pinggir Jurang” is a work that is rich in meaning and successfully conveys the message of self-struggle in a deep and emotional way. This research contributes to a broader understanding of how song lyrics can be used as a powerful communication medium to convey social and personal messages.
