Abstract

In this modern era, the use of traditional textiles (wastra) in daily life is often considered outdated by a significant portion of the younger generation. However, traditional textiles are a vital cultural heritage that must be preserved as part of the nation's identity. Culture plays a crucial role in human life, encompassing behaviors, beliefs, and artistic creations that are unique to specific communities. One of Indonesia's iconic art forms is batik, which not only reflects the beauty of its patterns but also the uniqueness and high value of its production process. Unfortunately, knowledge about traditional textiles among the public, especially the younger generation, remains limited. This has led to a growing disinterest in traditional textiles, as modern culture, heavily influenced by Western fashion trends, continues to evolve. However, a recent trend among Generation Z shows a renewed interest in traditional textiles as a form of self-expression and cultural identity. The Pemuda Berkain Surabaya community, founded by Gerak Samudra in 2021, aims to preserve and modernize traditional textiles in contemporary life. This community leverages Instagram to disseminate creative content that captures the interest of the younger generation in wastra. This study aims to analyze how Instagram content from @Pemudaberkain influences Generation Z's interest in traditional textiles. Through this approach, the research seeks to provide new insights into the factors that encourage young people's interest in preserving cultural heritage through digital media.
