Abstract
This research focuses on the symbolic meaning of food in the Liwetan tradition. In a cultural context, remembering that the era is increasingly developing creates a familiarity with old, forgotten dishes. Of course, the liwetan tradition is a traditional culinary dish with cultural richness that must be rediscovered and preserved as a cultural asset. This research aims to analyze the symbolic meaning of food at the Parent-Student Fraternity Forum (FPOM) in the liwetan tradition. The research method uses qualitative and phenomenological approaches. Data was obtained from interviews, observations and focus group discussions, as well as secondary sources from journals, reference books and online news. Data analysis involves social and cultural communication experts as triangulators. The findings show that interpersonal communication plays an important role in the liwetan tradition, supported by the dimension of two-way message flow and an informal atmosphere accompanied by the symbolic meaning of food in social ties, group solidarity, food and mental tension, as well as food symbolism in language. Two-way message flow has been proven to play a role in forming group solidarity. The effectiveness of the informal atmosphere in food and mental tension supports this dimension by creating a social space that can reduce stress and provide calm. The liwetan tradition is not just an activity of eating together, it also teaches positive social values, preserves culture, and makes a significant contribution in strengthening social and cultural ties.
